Experience the theatrical adaptation of Piri Thomas’ lyrical coming of age memoir about growing up on the streets of Spanish Harlem. First published in 1967, this contemporary classic of manhood, marginalization, survival and transcendence continues to resonate with urban youth throughout the country.

This Literature to Life presentation of Down These Mean Streets, by Piri Thomas is made by special arrangement with The American Place Theatre.

Harlem Stage partners with the Black Documentary Collective and the Urban Arts Partnership Media Lab to present Ghetto Talks. A short documentary created by Urban Arts Partnership Media Lab students that explores historical and contemporary uses of the word "ghetto" through interviews with peers, artists, experts and activists; photographs, original graphics and soundtrack. Followed by a post-screening discussion.
