PROMISED LAND
Conceived by Yoruba Richen, whose award-winning work focuses on illuminating issues of race, space, and power, Promised Land explores the many compelling concerns facing post-apartheid South Africa. Promised Land invites audiences to witness the remarkable rebuilding of a country following years of racism and violence, as it follows two black communities trying to retrieve their ancestry in a battle over land. Promised Land was made possible by the International Reporting Project fellowship Richen received in 2004. Segments of the film have been broadcasted on the PBS program Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zacharia and screened at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. In 2006, the film won the Fledgling Fund Award for Socially Conscious Documentaries presented at the Independent Feature Project in New York City.
