MRS. GOUNDO’S DAUGHTER
Mrs. Goundo’s Daughter is a gripping film about a Malian mother’s fight for asulum in the US to protect her two-year-old from female genital cutting. Shot in Philadelphia and Mali, the film explores the African tradition of female genital cutting, as well as the intricacies and frustrations of the asylum process. Directed by Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater, Mrs. Goundo’s Daughter has been screened at the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival at Lincoln Center and the AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Film Festival. This screening is followed by a discussion and reception.
