SIMÓN BOLÍVAR BIG-BAND JAZZ

Legendary jazz pianist Arturo O'Farrill hosts the premiere NYC trip of Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar Big-Band Jazz. Join us for a musical evening and a rare chance to experience the El Sistema model, which has transformed hundreds of thousands of children's lives globally.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
The Simón Bolívar Big-Band Jazz (SBBBJ), was created in November of 2007, with the idea to develop jazz in Venezuela. The group is formed by 40 musicians from the “Conservatorio de Música Simón Bolívar (CMSB)”. This conservatory is part of Fesnojiv, (Fundación del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de Orquestas y Coros Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela). The SBBBJ is conducted by Andrés Briceño, one of the most prominent Venezuelan percussionist.
The State Foundation for the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela (FESNOJIV - Fundación del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela), commonly known as 'El Sistema' is a government-funded organization, founded by maestro José Antonio Abreu, aimed at systematizing music education and promoting the collective practice of music through symphony orchestras and chorus as a means social organization and communitarian development.
On their historic first trip to New York City, The Simón Bolívar Big-Band Jazz (SBBBJ) performs a repertoire they have mastered and performed all over the world.
This big band jazz experience is a rare chance to experience an international movement that promotes the El Sistema model that has transformed hundreds of thousands of children’s lives globally.
