Chief Development Officer

 

The Chief Development Officer reports directly to the Executive Director/Director of Development and indirectly to the Managing Director. This position is responsible for working with the Directors in the implementation of the Harlem Stage Strategic/Transformational plan with specific oversight of the related fundraising for the WaterWorks Campaign and Major Donor program.  

Job Description: The Chief Development Officer is responsible for the overall strategy for securing support for two new fundraising initiatives related to the Strategic Plan.  Those initiatives include raising funds for a $10 million dollar Water Works Campaign and initiating and securing support for a Major Donor program.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Work closely with Executive Director/Director of Development, the Managing Director, and the Strategic Planning Consultant to develop and implement strategies to raise substantial new funding for the Water Works commissioning fund and to build a Major Donor Program

  • Work with the Board of Directors to identify prospects and strategies for the solicitation of participation and financial support for both programs

  • Manage established goals for the programs; Track progress and cash flow throughout the fiscal year;

  • Coordinate and calendar solicitation events and meetings with prospective donors

  • Write and manage proposals and reports to donors related to these two initiatives.

  • Write and  present quarterly status reports for board meetings

Requirements of the Position:

  • Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred

  • Five (5) years relevant development/ fundraising experience with progressively increasing responsibilities

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Database Management

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with online fundraising research methods

  • Highly motivated with excellent time management, organizational, supervisory, and creative problem solving skills

  • A thorough understanding of nonprofit arts/culture sector and funding community
