Live Radio Play: Nsangou Njikam's "The Renaissance EP Volume II"

  • Harlem Stage 150 Convent Avenue New York United States (map)

It's been 100 years since the Harlem Renaissance.  Who is Harlem now?  Can you still hear the Duke, Hurston and Hughes?  Are their sounds covered by the booming voices of P Diddy, Dipset, or Doug E Fresh?  Or is the gentrified landscape covering a much-heralded past?  Through a series of radio plays that employ traditional and modern theatrical methods, the Renaissance EP reaches from Sugar Hill to El Barrio to re-discover Harlem and the impact of the Renaissance a century later.  Using Hip Hop elements, radio play format, and multi-disciplinary arts mediums, The Renaissance EP re-ignites the conversation of what Harlem truly means and how the arts curate respect for culture through awareness of the past.  The series also aims to inspire new artists to take ownership of their neighborhood and find the Renaissance in themselves and those around them.  The Spirit of a community.  The Soul of a people.  This is Harlem, Now and Forever.  Let Harlem Stages give you the sound of Renaissance. Featuring Nsangou NjikamElisha LawsonCelestine Rae and Gillian Glasco. Directed by Adesola Osakalumi.
