Nona Hendryx curates the second event of a two-part program, culminating her leadership as Artistic Director of our yearlong celebration of Afrofuturism. A doorway to vibrant representations of Blackness for writers and filmmakers looking to throw off the shackles of stereotypes, projected racialism and obsolete limitations, Afrofuturist literature and films are conduits to reimagining Black identity.

A Multi-Generational, multimedia exploration, examination and celebration of Women of Color, writers of Afrofuturism and Speculative Fiction from the 1800’s to 2020 will celebrate the old guard and the avant-garde.

Part II - Nona Hendryx and Alondra Nelson discuss their influences, hidden figures in science, literature, speculative fiction, comics and beyond--including Phillis Wheatley, Julia C. Collins, Octavia Butler, S. A. Chakraborty, Nnedi Okorafor, Harriet E. Wilson, Pauline Hopkins, Jackie Ormes , N. K. Jemisin, Celia C. Peters, Nichelle Nichols, Adrianne Maree Brown--and are joined by special guests Terri Francis and Deborah E. Whaley.
